- Subject: [IML] IFW: QUEST: Depth of Field
-
- Can someone help me out ?
- Is it me, or is Depth of Field bust in IFW 1.3.4 ?
-
- I`ve used it before (in Dos V4), but I`ll be damned if I can get it to
- work again.
-
- For a test, I put three textured spheres at various Y distances from
- the camera, with the intention of having only the centre one in focus,
- but whatever I set in the camera`s actor bar, looks exactly the same,
- i.e. everything seems to be in perfect focus.
-
- I`m referring to George deBeaumont`s excellently written tuorial, which
- was actually written for IFD 3, and it all makes sense, but it just
- don`t work !
-
- Am I just having a bad aperture day, or what ?
- All comments gratefully accepted.

- Michael Hall has written a fabulous tutorial on using DOF in IFW....the
- only difference between using it in IFW and IFD, as I recall, was that in
- IFW quickrenders don't use DOF, you *have* to use the final rendering engine.
-
- His tutorial is at http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Studios/3522/doftut.htm
-
- The page even has a downloadable scene/objects so you can see firsthand if
- you are doing anything wrong.
-
- Ciao!

-
- Are you Rendering or Quickrendering? Only the Render command calculates
- DOF. Other than that, if you are following George's text, everything should
- work fine.

- I`m hanging my head in shame, that`s what I`m doing......
-
- It never occurred to me that it would work any differently as a
- quickrender, as I tried scanline and trace mode so many times with
- different settings.
-
- Still, better my fault than Imagine`s !
-
- Many thanks Richard, and all others who replied.
